Michigan Expungements

Restoring Your Rights And Reputation

The damage of a criminal arrest or conviction can last long after time has been served and fines have been paid. Having a criminal record can lead to difficulty with background checks for employment, housing, financial aid and more. You deserve a chance to be a contributing member of society, and getting your record expunged is a crucial first step toward the future you are striving to reach.

Atttorney Joshua A. Kaplan with Dizik|Faber|Kaplan, was a former criminal prosecutor who has seen the criminal justice system from multiple perspectives. You can rely on him to be your strongest advocate as he guides you through the expungement process.

What Is Expungement?

Expungement is the process of erasing – or expunging – a person’s conviction or arrest records. An expungement order will instruct courts to treat the past conviction as if it never happened, wiping the slate clean and allowing someone to move forward without the stain of a conviction on their record.

Do You Qualify For Expungement?

Michigan’s “clean slate” initiative has opened the door so that many people can take advantage of the benefits of expungement. Some specific offenses are eligible for automatic expungement as early as 2023, requiring no action on the part of the convicted. Additional opportunities for DUI expungement are one of the features of the “clean slate” bills signed into law by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The laws make more than 200,000 people with DUI convictions eligible for expungement.

Not sure if your past conviction qualifies for expungement? Mr. Kaplan can examine your records and help you understand all the options available to you.
